Looking after your mental health during Covid-19

The 18th-24th May is Mental Health Awareness Week in the UK and seems an apt time to be mindful of our wellbeing whilst in the middle of a world pandemic.

The coronavirus outbreak has had an impact on everyone’s daily lives, in ways never seen before during war or peace time.

During this time, you may have, or be feeling bored, frustrated or lonely. You may also feel low, worried, anxious, or be concerned about your health or that of those close to you. It’s important that you take care of your mind as well as your body.

A number of years ago the New Economics Foundation developed a framework that identified five key things that helped achieve a greater wellbeing.

We’re all told to eat our five a day to help our physical health. Well this is your five a day to keep you mentally healthy; connect, be active, be curious, keep learning and give.

During mental health awareness week Superior Healthcare are going to give you one of the five, each one giving tips on how to keep your mind active and well during coronavirus. We’ll release each video, here each day as the week progresses.

Your mental health is super important and it’s important to note that it can’t always be fixed with some straight forward tips.

What if I’m struggling with my mental health?

You can find further in depth advice on mental health on the government’s Covid-19 mental health page.

If you feel you’re struggling, be it with anxiety or depression it’s important you get help. If you find it difficult to speak to your family or friends, then there are people you can speak to through dedicated NHS Helplines. Don’t put it off. The worst thing you can do is do nothing.

What if I have an elderly relative or loved one all alone during lockdown?

Coronavirus has caused many of us to become isolated from one another. Although that is less than ideal for many of us, it is of serious concern for others. Particularly if you have elderly relatives or loved ones on their own, you can no longer go and check in on.

If you have an elderly relative or loved one living on their own and you’re worried about them Superior healthcare can help. We are a specialist provider of live-in care, where we send a trained carer or nurse (who has self isolated beforehand), to live with your loved one. In response to coronavirus we have extended this service to provide ’emergency live-in care’ to the elderly and vulnerable during this pandemic.

It allows them to continue to stay safe at home, with personal, round the clock care they need, whilst giving you the peace of mind that they are well looked after.
