This interactive half-day dementia training is designed for registered nurses, support workers, and healthcare assistants. We deliver training to our care and nursing team, external individuals and healthcare services across the UK.
Our expert trainers provide care professionals with the knowledge and skills to support people living with dementia using a person-centred approach. You’ll learn how dementia can impact a person, develop effective communication strategies, and implement care practices that promote dignity and respect.
Through realistic practice scenarios, you’ll gain the confidence to provide compassionate, effective support in real-life situations, helping you deliver high-quality care to people living with dementia.
By the end of this course, participants will be well-equipped with the best practices and strategies necessary for providing compassionate and effective care to individuals living with dementia in both community and care settings.
Over 3.5 hours, you’ll gain in-depth theoretical knowledge and participate in practical, hands-on competency assessments.
Course overview:
The training starts with a comprehensive overview of dementia, covering the different types and how each affects cognitive function and daily living.
Participants will explore the most prevalent types of dementia, such as Alzheimer’s disease, vascular dementia, and Lewy body dementia, learning how each type presents and progresses.
Gain insight into the neurological changes that occur in the brain due to dementia, enhancing your understanding of the condition’s impact on behaviour and cognition.
This module covers the underlying causes of dementia and its common symptoms, equipping you to recognise early signs and respond effectively.
Learn the principles of person-centered care, focusing on respecting individual preferences, needs, and values to provide tailored support to those living with dementia.
Our expert trainers teach effective communication techniques to support individuals living with dementia, ensuring meaningful interactions that foster understanding and connection.
Understand the importance of knowing a person’s history, interests, and preferences, which helps create a supportive environment that respects their identity.
This module emphasises the significance of comprehensive care planning, ensuring that care strategies align with the individual’s unique needs and circumstances.
Explore how to involve family and friends in the care process, recognising their vital role in providing emotional support and continuity for people living with dementia.
Participants will learn techniques for building trust and rapport with individuals living with dementia, fostering meaningful relationships that enhance care quality.
This module addresses the importance of recognising and respecting diversity among individuals with dementia, promoting inclusive practices in care.
Gain knowledge about the signs of abuse and how to implement safeguarding measures to protect vulnerable people from harm.
Understand the significance of non-verbal cues in communication with individuals with dementia, enabling more effective interactions and support.
We provide dementia training to social service providers, nursing homes, residential homes, and hospices, as well as to our agency care and nursing teams.
Additionally, we offer training to external care professionals looking to refresh their dementia knowledge and improve their skills in line with best practice standards.
All our training is CPD-accredited and can count toward nurse revalidation requirements.
We conduct training sessions in Kent, Essex, Hampshire, East Sussex, and West Sussex.
Each location accommodates up to 10-12 delegates. For larger groups, we offer flexible options, such as providing multiple trainers on the same day or scheduling additional training days.
We also offer on-site training at healthcare providers’ premises. If your facility has a suitable training space, we can bring our expertise directly to you.
