Huntington’s Disease care

Care for people living with Huntington’s disease

Superior Healthcare understands the profound impact Huntington’s disease has on individuals and their loved ones.

We are used to working with families, like our founders, who have had to make significant adjustments to their home and lifestyle following a life-changing incident or diagnosis.

Our team of experienced, qualified, and compassionate healthcare assistants and registered nurses are carefully matched to each client’s personality. All team members receive thorough, client-specific training, ensuring that we can support our clients to live safely and comfortably at home.

Huntington’s Disease Care

Specialist care package

Our specialist team of carers and nurses provides comprehensive support, from managing daily symptoms and clinical interventions to de-escalating behaviour – making our clients feel safe, valued, and heard. They expertly recognise and manage our clients’ changing physical, emotional, and cognitive needs, offering both social and clinical care.

People living with Huntington’s disease experience choreic movements, necessitating full moving and positioning support as their care needs evolve. We collaborate with third parties to help clients and families adapt their homes with equipment such as hospital beds, hoists, and mobility aids.

Huntington’s Disease

Evolving care

Because Huntington’s disease symptoms change over time, our nurse managers and expert care team continuously track any changes in the individual’s health, personal goals, and lifestyle.

This could include, for example, maintaining a routine of self-care and social support from friends and family to alleviate anxiety or adjusting medication administration, breathing support, and feeding methods due to dysphagia.

Nurse managers work with multidisciplinary teams, including case managers and ICBs, to regularly reassess the care plan and implement new care strategies as needed.

Clinical support

We work with children, young people, and adults living with Huntington’s disease on a long-term basis, evolving their clinical and social care support as required. The clinical interventions we can provide include:

  • Tracheostomy and/or ventilator care (BiPAP/CPAP) and support to maintain a clear airway
  • Gastrostomy or jejunostomy care
  • Full moving and positioning
  • Personal care, including continence care
  • Suction or cough assist support
  • Positive behaviour support
  • Medication administration
  • Epilepsy management

For us, it's personal

Superior Healthcare was founded in 2006, following our CEO’s own experience of locating a care package to support his brother, Alex, who sustained a traumatic brain injury at age 11.

Having experienced firsthand the importance of high-quality, compassionate, and consistent complex care, we are driven to ensure that everyone – including people living with Huntington’s disease – can live a fulfilled life, with fun, dignity, independence, and choice.
