Hybrid approach to care

Superior Healthcare supports clients with a personal health budget (PHB) or direct payments. We can provide all your care and nursing support or work alongside a team that you directly employ to offer contingency support.

This hybrid approach allows you to expand your team by utilising our healthcare assistants and nurses. To provide effective contingency support, we will assign a small team of employees who each work one shift per week within your care package.

We ensure that when you need to cover holidays or sickness, you will have access to skilled healthcare professionals you are familiar with, who understand your needs and preferences.

Setting up a care package

Working collaboratively with the client, family, and professional partners, we create a care package with the individual’s clinical needs, desires, and goals at the centre.

A Nurse Manager will be assigned to oversee your care package, providing a high level of clinical supervision and ensuring that all documentation is kept up to date.

Your directly employed team will have the opportunity to participate in our industry-leading complex care training, which we also provide to private hospitals, hospices, and care settings.

Superior Healthcare can train your team in essential areas such as medication administration, continence care (including catheterisation and bladder washouts), gastrostomy feeds, tracheostomy and airway management, and suction and cough assist, as well as seizure management and the administration of rescue medications when necessary.

Continuity of care

We are flexible and responsive. We work to effectively meet our clients’ evolving clinical and social needs.

For us, it's personal

Superior Healthcare was founded in 2006, after our CEO’s own experience of locating a care package to support his brother, who sustained a traumatic brain injury at age 11.

Having experienced first-hand the importance of high-quality, compassionate, and consistent complex care, we are driven to ensure that everyone can live a fulfilled life, with fun, dignity, independence, and choice.

What specialist training do you provide to your care and nursing teams?

All members of our team undergo an extensive five-day classroom training programme, complemented by practical workshops, before their introduction to our clients.

This comprehensive training curriculum encompasses the complete care certificate and provides detailed instruction on the essential skills required for supporting complex clients, including tracheostomy management and gastrostomy care.

Following this initial classroom induction, personalised, client-focused training sessions are ongoing.

We train teams of carers, support workers, registered nurses, and children’s nurses, to support people who:

  • Have a tracheostomy and/or ventilator (BiPAP/CPAP) and require support to maintain a clear airway
  • Use a suction or cough assist device
  • Require seizure management and administration of rescue medication such as Buccal Midazolam, and Rectal Diazepam if required
  • Need support to receive medication, nutrition, and hydration via gastrostomy tube
  • Require assistance with personal care including continence care
  • Need assistance with medication administration
  • Require bowel care and prevention of autonomic dysreflexia following a spinal injury
  • Need positive behaviour support to live safely

What is a personal health budget?

A personal health budget (PHB) is an allocation of funding provided to individuals in the UK to support their health and well-being needs. This budget allows individuals to have more control and choice over the healthcare and support services they receive. Here are some key points about PHBs:

  1. Personalisation: A PHB is designed to tailor healthcare services to the specific needs and preferences of the individual, promoting a more personalised approach to care.
  2. Funding source: The budget is typically funded by the NHS and can cover various services and support, including treatments, therapies, equipment, and personal care.
  3. Care planning: Individuals work with healthcare professionals to create a personalised care plan that outlines how the budget will be spent to meet their health and well-being goals.
  4. Flexibility: The budget can be managed in different ways, including:
  • Notional budget: The NHS holds the budget and arranges the agreed services.
  • Third-party budget: An organisation manages the budget and services on behalf of the individual.
  • Direct payment: The individual receives the funds directly to purchase the services and support they need.

PBHs are available to individuals with long-term conditions, disabilities, or complex health needs who require ongoing care and support.
