The Preston Project: Community Hub & Specialised Homes in Kent

Superior Healthcare is proud to announce that it has purchased the former Preston Garden Centre and Coppers Bistro site, marking the start of an ambitious development that will bring two major projects to life: the creation a new Community Hub and a collection of purpose built homes. 

Superior Healthcare aims to regenerate and enhance the site which is located between Sandwich and Canterbury near the village of Wingham, to provide an inclusive destination that will offer a social meeting space for people living with disabilities, their carers and families, and the wider community. 

 A new Community Hub 

At the heart of Superior Healthcare’s plans is the creation of a Community Hub, including to reopen the former Coppers Bistro. The Community Hub will form the centrepiece of the development, designed to bring together people living with disabilities, their families, carers, and local residents. 

The Hub will feature extended gardens and sensory spaces, creating a welcoming environment that encourages connection, inclusion, and wellbeing. 

Purpose built homes 

Alongside the Hub, Superior Healthcare will develop adjoining land where planning permission has already been granted for a number of new homes. Working with specialist architects, the organisation aims to amend the existing planning permission to build a number of high-quality, purpose-built properties that will provide permanent homes and respite accommodation for people including young adults, living with lifelong disabilities or life-changing injuries.  Residents will be supported by Superior Healthcare’s experienced team of trained support workers and on-site nurses. 

Supporting community inclusion and independence 

Commenting on the project, Stewart Thorp, CEO and Co-Founder of Superior Healthcare, said: “In recent years, the care sector has evolved to help people with significant needs to live independently in their own homes rather than in hospitals or residential facilities. However, we also see too many people – particularly young people – living in isolation with limited social outlets. Our goal, is to create a welcoming space for the whole community, where inclusivity, connection, and care come together.  We look forward to sharing more details as our plans take shape.”
