Preston Gardens

Preston Gardens will bring together community spaces, wellbeing facilities and specialist housing with access to professional support, in one setting. 

Plans currently include: 

• A café and community hub 

• Spaces for events and activities 

• Therapy rooms for occupational therapy and rehabilitation 

• Sensory gardens and outdoor wellbeing spaces 

• An accessible gym 

• A hydrotherapy pool 

The hydrotherapy facilities will be unique within the local area and designed to meet the needs of people living with complex needs and disabilities. 

No. We want Preston Gardens to feel open and inclusive – this is central to our vision. 

While some spaces will support residents directly, our wider vision is for the community hub, café and many activities to be available for local people, families, carers and the wider community to enjoy too. 

We want Preston Gardens to be somewhere people come together, not somewhere that feels closed off. 

Yes, that is part of our long-term vision. 

We hope to offer dedicated respite accommodation where people can stay for short breaks in a safe, supportive and welcoming environment. 

We know how important respite can be for both individuals and families and we want Preston Gardens to provide somewhere families feel genuinely comfortable and reassured. 

Preston Gardens will employ a team made of healthcare and wellbeing professionals – as well as a team to support the wider community. 

This is expected to include: 

• Registered Nurses 

• Healthcare Support Workers 

• Occupational Therapists 

• Physiotherapists 

• Rehabilitation Specialists 

• A Community Hub and Hospitality Teams 

The aim is to create a joined-up environment where people’s clinical, physical, emotional and social wellbeing are all supported together. 

Nature is a big part of what makes Preston Gardens special and we want to protect and enhance the site’s biodiversity. 

Any changes we make will be carefully considered and focused on improving accessibility, safety and the overall experience for everyone using the space. 

Our aim is to create an environment that feels welcoming, calm and connected to nature. 

Our plans include renovating the existing café as part of the wider community hub. 

Accessibility is central to every part of the design, so we may need to make changes to the existing building to ensure it fully meets the needs of people living with complex disabilities and mobility needs. 

This includes features such as: 

• Accessible entrances and pathways 

• Specialist changing facilities 

• Accessible toilets 

• Spacious layouts for mobility equipment 

Any changes will be made thoughtfully and with the intention of creating a space that is even more welcoming, functional and enjoyable for everyone who visits. 

The housing at Preston Gardens is being designed for people living with complex care needs and disabilities who may require specialist support, rehabilitation or adapted living environments. 

This may include people with birth related injuries, neurological conditions, spinal injuries or long-term complex health needs. 

Yes. We want Preston Gardens to feel like part of the community and we hope local people will enjoy visiting the café, gardens and community spaces. 

Yes. We hope to run regular activities and events that bring people together, including creative sessions, wellbeing activities and inclusive community events. 

As well as transforming a vacant site, Preston Gardens will create local jobs, improve accessibility and provide new wellbeing and community facilities for the area. 

Our aim is to create somewhere that has a positive long-term impact for both residents and the wider community. 

Plans are still progressing and we will share updates with the community as key milestones are reached. 

Absolutely. We want Preston Gardens to feel welcoming for families and loved ones and to create spaces where people can spend meaningful time together. Many of the properties will have an extra bedroom so families can spend the night if they want to and we plan to a build a separate, purpose built property for family members to use. 

Accessibility is being considered throughout the design process, from pathways and entrances through to therapy spaces, changing facilities and social areas. 

The goal is to create an environment where people can move around comfortably, safely and with as much independence as possible. 

Transport and accessibility are important parts of the planning process and these considerations will form part of the wider development plans. We are advocating for plenty of on-site parking, to ensure that all visitors are accommodated on-site and so that the community facilities can be enjoyed by all. 

As plans develop, we will share more information about referrals, partnerships and how healthcare professionals and case managers, as well as people living with complex care needs and their families can work with us.

Support will be tailored to individual needs, with specialist teams available to provide high-quality care and assistance where required.
