Our CPD-accredited Basic Life Support Training empowers carers and nurses with the confidence, skills, and knowledge to effectively and confidently respond to first aid emergencies.
This half-day Basic Life Support Training is designed for registered nurses, support workers, and healthcare assistants. We deliver training to our care and nursing team, external individuals and healthcare services across the UK.
It is perfect for individuals with limited experience or those seeking to refresh their first-aid skills according to the latest best practices.
The primary goal of this course is to equip participants with essential first aid knowledge, including CPR, recovery position techniques, bleeding control, choking management, and shock response. Engage in practice scenarios that reflect emergencies encountered in community settings.
Basic life support training is a vital skill for everyone to have. Participants in our course will learn how to deliver first aid effectively, correctly, and confidently, following best practice standards.
All first aid practices are matched to the European Resuscitation Council guidelines.
Over 3.5 hours, you will engage in theoretical knowledge and practical, hands-on competency assessments. This combination strengthens your understanding and practical skills; ensuring you are well-prepared for real-life situations.
Course Overview:
Learn how to safely position an unconscious but breathing person in the recovery position to keep their airway clear and prevent aspiration.
Learn how to keep yourself safe and recognise the three types of blood loss: arterial, venous, and capillary.
You’ll also master how to apply direct pressure with elevation, identify the signs and symptoms of systemic shock, and understand how to manage bleeding effectively. This includes using dressings to minimise risk and support recovery.
Recognise the signs and symptoms of shock, and learn appropriate first aid interventions to stabilise the individual while waiting for emergency services.
Gain hands-on experience in the D.R.S.A.B.C. procedure, including assessing responsiveness, calling emergency services, and maintaining the airway (with the jaw thrust method).
Learn to monitor vital signs, perform CPR for adults, juniors, and babies, and understand when and how to use an Ambu bag and an AED (automated external defibrillator).
Identify the potential causes of unconsciousness, including head injuries, and learn how to provide appropriate care and monitoring to prevent further complications.
Learn to recognise and manage choking in adults, children, and infants. This module includes hands-on demonstrations of back blows and the Heimlich manoeuvre to help clear an obstructed airway effectively.
