Children’s Nurse Opportunity – Hertfordshire

Paediatric 1:1 Night Care Consistency, Compassion & Continuity

Are you a Registered Children’s Nurse looking for a role where you can practise true paediatric nursing — without the time pressures of the ward?

We are offering a rare and rewarding opportunity for a Children’s Nurse to deliver dedicated 1:1 night‑time care to a young child with complex health needs, supported in the comfort and safety of her family home.

This role is ideal for nurses who value child‑centred, family‑focused care, and who want the time and autonomy to deliver nursing the way it should be done.

You will be caring for a non‑verbal young girl with an acquired brain injury, who communicates through expressions, sounds, and movement. She has a warm and engaging personality and responds best to playful, calm, and emotionally attuned Children’s Nurses.

As her dedicated night nurse, you’ll develop a deep understanding of her cues, routines, and needs. Over time, you’ll form a trusted therapeutic relationship with both the child and her family, becoming a consistent and reassuring presence in their lives.

The Role – Designed for Children’s Nurses

This is a hands‑on, clinical paediatric nursing role, focused on one child — not multiple patients. Although delivered in the home, it requires specialist children’s nursing skills, clinical judgement, and an excellent understanding of complex paediatric care.

Your clinical responsibilities will include:

  • Administering continuous feeds and medications via PEGJ (jejunal route)
  • Supporting a child with Dystonia
  • Night‑time clinical monitoring and observations
  • Paediatric moving and handling
  • Working collaboratively with parents and the wider MDT

This role allows you to slow down, observe, and truly respond to the child’s needs.

Shifts & Stability

Night shifts available:
Monday – Sunday | 20:00 – 08:00

Once your induction is complete, you’ll move onto a consistent and predictable rota.

Training, Induction & Support

You’ll receive a comprehensive paediatric‑focused induction, delivered alongside the family and established care team. This ensures you are fully confident in the child’s care before working independently.

We also provide:

  • Ongoing clinical training
  • Regular supervision
  • Access to experienced paediatric leads

You’ll be supported every step of the way.

Essential Criteria

  • NMC Registered Children’s Nurse (RN – Child)
  • Strong understanding of infection prevention and control
  • Experience in paediatrics and/or complex care
