This half-day Enteral Feeding Training is designed for registered nurses, community carers, support workers, and healthcare assistants working in the healthcare industry who are looking to enhance their clinical skills and knowledge in caring for a client with a gastrostomy/jejunostomy.

Our CPD accredited course covers a wide range of topics essential for healthcare professionals. You will learn about enteral feeding tubes and the procedures for feeding and medication administration. This includes practical experience in simulated practice learning, which replicates situations in PEG care you are likely to encounter in the community.

Enteral Feeding Training Overview

Learning Outcomes:

  • Anatomy of the gastrointestinal system.
  • Overview of gastrostomies including low profile feeding devices and PEG tubes.
  • Understand indications for gastrostomy
  • Care of the client and your responsibilities with a gastrostomy & jejunostomy.
  • Stoma care and infection control
  • Complications of a PEG
  • Feeding via a gastrostomy tube, including bolus, intermittent gravity and continuous pump feeds.
  • Overview of medication administration via G-Tube
  • Demonstration in simulated practice setting up feed extension tube for low profile feeding tubes
  • Setting up a feed in simulated practice.

Effective PEG care and the use of gastrostomy tubes are critical components of the training. Participants will gain sufficient knowledge to work with PEG tubes and percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy (PEG) feeding. Our comprehensive feeding training course also covers the learning outcomes necessary for high-quality care.

The aim of this training is to improve care, enhance patient safety, and optimise outcomes in a safe controlled environment. You will learn about the procedures for feeding and administering medications, ensuring you can provide proper care for clients requiring enteral feeding.

The course also includes sections on recognising, dealing with, and reporting complications, ensuring you are well-prepared for any challenges. Whether you are dealing with patients requiring a PEG or handling tube feeding, our training is designed to equip you with the necessary skills and knowledge.

By the end of the course, you will be proficient in managing feeding and medication administration, understand the importance of effective PEG care, and be capable of handling a variety of enteral feeding tubes.
