Description

Superior Healthcare is urgently recruiting experienced Brain Injury Support Workers to join a dedicated team supporting a young male client with a brain injury in their own home in Hedge End.

As a Brain Injury Support Worker, you will join our complex care team and work long-term with one or a small number of clients. Plus, benefit from a fixed rota and the option of overtime.

Superior Healthcare will provide full, paid classroom-based training when you join us, paid induction shifts, and ongoing supervision support from our in-house team of nurses and supervisors.

If a client’s needs mean that you require extra skills (for example, if they need assistance to meet their nutritional requirements), we will provide paid, specialist training to ensure that you can confidently support their needs and develop your own skills.

Role Overview:

A Brain Injury Support Worker will provide individualised care and support to individuals with brain injuries, encompassing daily living tasks, emotional/behavioural support, and facilitating access to community activities and rehabilitation programs.

Daily Living Tasks:

Promoting independence with activities of daily living such as promoting a healthy sleep/wake regime, maintaining a healthy diet, support with domestic responsibilities such as cleaning, shopping and cooking, attending appointments and managing correspondence, ensuring that bathing, grooming and dressing are undertaken appropriately and assisting with day-to-day finances/money management.

Emotional Support:

Providing encouragement and a safe environment for individuals to express/regulate their emotions to cope with the challenges of brain injury as well as actively safeguarding the client from harm

Cognitive and Behavioural Support:

Understanding the impact of brain injury on cognitive and behavioural functioning and working under therapeutic strategies to manage challenges such as helping the client plan and organise their dairy/timetable and providing prompts and reminders.

Rehabilitation Support:

  • Assisting with the independent living trial and rehabilitation programs.
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of an interdisciplinary team including occupational therapy and neuropsychological intervention.

Community Integration:

Facilitating access to community activities, vocational endeavours, appointments, and social interactions.

Record Keeping:

Maintaining detailed and accurate records of care, progress, any changes in the individual’s condition and must possess the ability to use a computer and associated software.

Medication Management:

Assisting with medication administration.

Communication:

Supporting communication skills and facilitating interactions with family, friends, the wider public and other professionals.

Safety:

Ensuring a safe environment for the individual, including reporting any hazards/concerns.

Advocacy:

Supporting the individual’s rights and advocating for their needs.

Shift Patterns Available:

Additional shifts are available in the local area for those with flexible availability and a willingness to travel.

  • 18-24 hour shifts including sleeping night shifts.
